Plot:
Een mariniers peloton komt oog in oog te staan met een buitenaardse invasie in Los Angeles. Al jaren zijn er gedocumenteerde gevallen van UFO waarnemingen over de hele wereld - Buenos Aires, Seoul, Frankrijk, Duitsland, China. Maar in 2011, zullen waarnemingen, een angstaanjagende werkelijkheid worden als de Aarde wordt aangevallen door onbekende krachten. Grote steden zullen vallen terwijl vele mensen enkel nog machteloos kunnen toekijken. Los Angeles zal hierbij als laatste grootmacht fel tegenstand bieden tegen de buitenaardse invasie. Hier zal de mensheid zich proberen in stand te houden. Het is aan een Marine staff sergeant (Aaron Eckhart) en zijn nieuwe peloton om de vijand tegen te houden en uit te schakelen. Ze staan dan ook voor het grootste offensief die ze ooit zullen meemaken.
